Boat Reviews By Owners
2001 -- 24' 6" SHAMROCK
Cockpit: Cockpit is fine with sides high enough to feel comfortable in rough seas.Has coming pads all around. Good visibility and ventilation from the helm. Since engine is low it is very stable in rough seas.
Cabin: The cabin is huge with two big bunks and a head. I store on one side and nap on the other. Plenty of underbunk storage also, which I have not seen in more expensive walkarounds.
Construction: Great exterior glasswork. I have only waxed twice in four years and looks like new. No stress cracks or gel deterioration.
Handling: Boat is very seaworthy. I fish 3-5 and 4-6 foot seas regularly without problem.
When the wind gets over 20 kts its time to stay closer in. The boat will handle it but lot of bounce for any size boat in those conditions. It is a single inboard so takes practice to learn to back.
Engine Room: Boat has 300 hp pleasurecraft inboard. I had to replace manifolds after three years, but that is normal. Cruise 19-22 mpg at 2to 2.4 mpg. Will run over 30 mph. I don't and keep rpm 3000 or less.
Oil filter and drain tube make oil changes easy. One nice thing is the whole engine can be replaced for $7000 or less if you have to. (Maybe a lot less per some ads)
General Comments: I keep mine in the Florida keys and fish mostly offshore. I have used in backcounty channels and with the tunnel drive it handles shallow water well. Great for diving too with the swim platform and fresh water shower.
