Boat Reviews By Owners
1989 -- 23' 0" SEA RAY
Cockpit: Center console - fair sized for a 23'. Small livewell - Sink - Raw Water and Fresh Water. Very poor draining of deck. Scuppers on side of boat are 1" above bottom of gutters. Unfortunately hatch lips are only 1/2" above bottom of gutters - Result - Water runs into bilge instead of overboard. BAD Design!
Cabin: Small head with porta potti. Electrical connections behind vinyl panel. A birds nest.
Construction: I do not understand why people are so impressed with Sea Ray. The construction on this boat sucks. Bad transom design results in stress cracks - big time. Fish boxes in rear empty into Bilge??? Non Marine Plywood panels in bilge rot.
Handling: Boat handles fairly well in smooth water. About 42 mph with T-135's. 3 footers or more and boat pounds.
Engine Room: Sea Ray V135's - Really they are Mercury 135's - Oil injected older design - The have performed adequately. Keep a close eye on the injection system. Hoses have a tendency to deteriorate and break. Not a good thing at 4000 rpm!!
General Comments: I am in the process of selling this boat. Fortunately for the new owner, I have fixed a lot of the problems this boat has had. Replaced the rotten wood, added scuppers, installed a battery charger. Too bad the guys at Sea Ray couldn't figure that out when they built it.
