2008 -- 30' 2" BOSTON WHALER
Model: Conquest 285
Cockpit: Cockpit is wide enough for only the driver to stand while underway. Boston Whaler has designed the co-pilot or passenger seat on the left as a lounger which makes it impossible for a passenger to stand up in rough weather. The courtesy rail leading to the cabin and cup holder on the dash are the only hand-holds available. This forces a passenger to stand in front of the cabin door during rough weather. Visibility is poor. Windshield wipers, barely work.
Cabin: Supposedly for 4, but only comfortable for 2.
Construction: Fit and finish are very good but not above average for a boat in this price range.
Handling: Poor. In only 2ft seas, she turns like a manatee and has a tendency to roll severely. The ride is rough in only moderately bad weather, and keeping the boat on a heading at 22 knots is a nightmare. I had to drive the boat from Miami to Islamorada and it was not at all pleasant. I felt sorry for my friend who was forced to stand in front of the cabin door without a grab-bar.
Engine Room: 2 X 225 mercury verados. Engines are quiet for horsepower. Powerful, but slow response on this hull.
General Comments: Offshore Fishing/Cruising. However, the boat seems only to be suited for calm, flat days. I do not consider this to be a safe boat for anyone but the driver in bad weather. I would only recommend this hull for cruising. A buyer could save several thousand dollars by forgoing all the trolling/fishing options. Boston Whaler has forgotten it liniage with this one.
