Cockpit: On deck, she has a single swivel captain’s chair and “L” shaped bench seating for 4-5 as well as an additional transom seating for 2-3 people. Cockpit sits 4 adults (+ helmsman) comfortably. Personally, I think she has a great layout and prefer it to the searay layout – that is, I prefer the single captain’s chair (my space) - I’m not blocked in, as you would be on a bench seat, and can easily see and talk to passengers on the L shaped bench seat – the layout brings everyone together rather than have them sit/stand behind you.
Helm visibility is good but would prefer if helm pedestal moved up/down instead of being fixed - rake of windhield is servere but overall good visibility.
There is a small storage locker below the bench seat and there is a table and pedestal for the cockpit and aft seating areas. She could use more storage above deck.
Because of the teak coamed railings, she is not a great fishing boat, but I have and will contuinue to catch fish -rod holders were not standard equipment but can easily be mounted to rails or flush mounted. We have founfd her to be a great boat & very economical for picnics and extended family day trips.
Cabin: Down below, she has six-foot headroom and a fully enclosed stand up head w/ a toilet & macerator, sink and good storage. The galley has an ice box (some models have fridges), alcohol stove (some have alchol/electric), fresh water sink and under and upper counter storage. There is a small hanging closet and teak magazine rack and the v- berth (which has good storage underneath) converts into a double bed. There is also a very spacious queen size aft cabin – in total she sleeps 4-5 very comfortably (the L shaped bench in the cockpit offers an additional sleeping space). There is a forward "shelf" space perfect for storage or in our case a tv pedestal and an enclosed anchor locker. There are 2 tables and 2 pedestals - one for the v-berth and the other for the cockpit or the stern. The "L" seating in the cockpit can also double a single berth.
Construction: Aside from leaky windows (apparently common in these older boats, I think she is a well built vessel - for a soon to be 20 year old she handles well in rough seas and cuts through small chop w/ little bounce.
Handling: She has a nice deep hull and at approx 3,675 dry Lbs & w/ an 8ft beam is a smooth and stable cruiser. She planes out pretty quickly and the trim tabs really help to balance her out (starboard to port) while under way.
Engine Room: 5.7L rebuilt w/ OMC cobra (rebuilt) outdrive. Top end is just shy of 40mph (gps) - though w/ a little fine tuning and less weight I think I get her over 40mph. She will easily pull an inflatable (the kids just love that) & skier. For best fuel economy, she likes to cruise around 3200rpm (25mph). She has a 55 gallon fuel tank, a 13 gallon fresh water tank and a 13 gallon waste holding tank. I guesstimate that she burns 6/gph cruising, so she is pretty fuel efficient, but has muscle if and when you want it.
General Comments: For us, the 2455/2450 (according to bayliner,the same boat) has been the perfect starter boat - we have 3 kids (growing fast) & we primarily do extended day tips & a few overnights on the South Shore of Long Island. We have occasionaaly run her out through the inlet & into the ocean on calm days for fishing as well.
I like that I can single hand the boat (added a windless) & if I were to go bigger, it would likely only be to a 2550 (for the added benefits of lightly larger beam, seperate dinnette & shower) - but then again the ease of use & economy (purchase, maintainence, storage & operation) of the 2455/2450 are hard to overlook.
